Athena is the goddess of wisdom, from the Greek Mythology and, unlike Ares, she is the goddess of strategic warfare. She also became the protective deity of Athens.
Athena and Athens
One day, the Athenians (inhabitants of Athens) organized a contest to know who would be the protective deity of their city.
Athena was opposed to Poseidon, each of them had to propose a gift to offer to the city. Poseidon struck the ground with his trident, which made appear a superb stallion or a jet of seawater, depending on the versions. Athena, as for her, proposed them an olive tree.
The Athenians chose Athena's gift, which provided them with food and oil.
